Best East Coast Motorcycle Routes
East Coast Motorcycle Routes to Ride For
There are routes, and then there are motorcycle routes—and Harley-Davidson riders know the difference. Motorcycle enthusiasts know there’s nothing like the freedom to go wherever you want. From Maine to Florida, the East Coast offers so many fabulous rides it can be hard knowing which one to choose next. To help out, we’ve put together what we think is the ultimate list of the best motorcycle rides up and down the Atlantic.
Maine & New Hampshire
Maine’s 125-mile Bold Coast Scenic Highway takes you from coastal fishing communities all the way to Eastport’s islands. In New Hampshire, take a ride on the Kancamagus Scenic Byway through the White Mountains. The short 40-mile trip never disappoints but keep an eye out for moose.
Connecticut & Massachusetts
Begin your trip in New Milford, CT and follow US Highway 7 as it meanders past the Housatonic River through picturesque small towns and Connecticut’s and Massachusetts’ rural west. Along the route, Kent Falls has a series of waterfalls that dramatically cascade on their way down to the valley below.
Rhode Island
The state’s small size makes it a great jumping off point for a multi-state trip. A 600-mile New England tour can begin in Providence and pass through Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. Along the way you’ll experience coastal sites, historic structures, and mountain lookouts.
New York
The Adirondacks offer some of the most incredible motorcycle routes in eastern New York state. Close enough to Vermont and New Hampshire for some quick side trips, you can also head southwest to the Finger Lakes. The six-million-acre park has terrific hiking trails and waterfalls, including the spectacular Taughannock Falls.
New Jersey
It isn’t called the Garden State for nothing. High Point State Park is the state’s highest point and offers stunning vistas, particularly in cooler fall weather when the leaves turn crimson, gold, and plum-colored. You can also drive the 70-mile loop near the Delaware River and take in some of the state’s impressive waterfalls.
Delaware & Maryland
Here are two small states that offer a surprisingly large number of motorcycle routes. Delaware offers plenty of short routes that also pass into other states, including Maryland, whose natural scenery and timeless historical locations compete with Chesapeake Bay’s sandy beaches for your attention.
Virginia
The state may be for lovers, but it’s for bike lovers, too. The Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive is easy to get to and rewards you with unspoiled scenery. Highway 77 leads you into a 155-mile route with sweeping curves, incredible views, and plenty of overnight accommodations.
The Carolinas
North Carolina is home to seaside vistas and beautiful mountains. One popular, short route is the 11-mile Tail of the Dragon (Deal’s Gap) that’s famous for its over 300 curves. As you head into South Carolina, check out the Palmetto State’s National Heritage Corridor, a 17-county area that extends from the Appalachian Mountains to Charleston on the Atlantic coast.
Georgia
Take your pick. Georgia’s many routes pass by beaches and marshlands and climb into mountains. Popular motorcycle ride destinations here include Savannah and McAllister Historical Park.
Florida
While much of the Sunshine State’s roads are relatively straight, they make up in scenery what they lack in curves. One of your best options is Big Bend Scenic Highway, a long and winding drive that takes you through western Florida and the Gulf Coast by way of the Apalachicola National Forest.
